I'm a wedding, elopement, and engagement photographer specializing in storytelling and true to life photography!
I think sometimes props get a bad rap but they can totally elevate your photos! There was a time I thought prop meant a cheesy trinket and a random thing you hold, but that’s not the case. I love when couples include items that help tell a story. So, here are a few ways you can include props in your shoot…
What do you like to do together as a couple? Do you love cars or motorcycles? Do you like to surf or skateboard? Are you into painting or throwing pottery? Think of things you like to do together and incorporate that!
What is it that you want out of your photos? Do you want cozy and romantic vibes or energetic and playful? You can help convey your story by implementing props into your storytelling. Here are a few examples,
If you want cozy and romantic vibes you could do an in-home session by the piano. Or, break out your favorite coffee mugs and dance in the kitchen!
If you want more energetic and playful photos you could make cookies and start a food fight with the flour. Or, you could go for a motorcycle ride through the mountains and have a pizza and beer picnic!
If you’re doing an in home session it’s easy to incorporate things already in your home in your photos. Think candles, books, decor, etc. You could even do a pillow fight! I’ve had a couple do this and it was so much fun and really showed their personalities and playful relationship! If you’re doing your photos in a studio you could include some fun furniture that they may have. Or bringing a polaroid camera for an added element. I’ve had a couple do a poolside honeymoon session with a floating fruit tray. Not only was it so pretty, it was also so fun to get creative with! If you’re doing your shoot in a city setting you could include skateboards or bikes. If you’re doing a session in a meadow of by a lake you could set up a little picnic or charcuterie board!
When it comes to props and adding unique elements to your photos the possibilities are endless. I love to help my couples incorporate personalized experiences, so if you need any ideas or want examples just reach out!
