I'm a wedding, elopement, and engagement photographer specializing in storytelling and true to life photography!
This session will go down in history as one of my favorite shoots of all time. If you’re wondering why, I’m gonna tell you! Take a look at this Big Sur sunset engagement session.
If you’ve never been to Big Sur, GO! If you’ve ever been to Big Sur, then you know that it’s one of the most breath taking places. I’ve seen a lot of gorgeous places, but let me tell ya… Big Sur is magical! It’s one of those locations where you just keep saying, “wow, this is incredible!”
This place had been on my bucket list for a very long time. So, when it was finally happening it was a pinch me moment. On top of that, this couple was an absolute joy to be around. It didn’t feel like a photoshoot, it just felt like a date that I was documenting. The way the sunset over the ocean. The way the water sparkled at golden hour. How these two looked at each other, every single thing was beyond perfect.
If you’ve ever drove down (or up) Highway 1 then you know the views are unmatched. You also know that there are little turn offs on the highway to get out and take in the views, this was one of those spots! If you’re wanting to book a shoot with me in Big Sur, I will most likely recommend we shoot at this same spot. It was quiet, we had the whole area to ourselves to take in the views, and it was easy to access!
I absolutely loved M & D’s outfits. They were comfy and casual and fit the vibes perfectly. If you’re wanting your shoot to feel like a Nicholas Sparks movie, these are the outfits! My recommendation for Big Sur is to think of the weather, if it’s going to be chilly bring a sweater. If you’ve never been to California, when the sun goes down the temperature drops enough to make even the hottest day turn cold (especially on the coast). If you plan on running around and are open to adventurous poses then I suggest wearing something that’s easy to move in!
Lanterns are my new found favorite thing to include in photos! I mean how epic are these shots?! Blue hour was among us and it was getting dark so we brought out the lanterns and made some magic happen. If it’s getting dark, these are the perfect prop for any session. This set of two from Amazon would be a great addition to your photoshoot, I mean how romantic??
If you’re wanting to get to Big Sur you may be wondering where it’s at and how to get there. Big Sur is just south of Monterey, CA. I flew into San Francisco from Phoenix and rented a car, then drove the hour and a half down the coast to get to Monterey. I found that it was most affordable to stay in Monterey, however if I was traveling with my husband I would have tried to stay at one of the cabins or camped in Big Sur and made a whole weekend out of it! One thing to note is that there is HORRIBLE cell service in Big Sur, I recommend having an itinerary or mapping out the address and locations before getting into the area because it will be very hard to look up things to do once you’re there.
You can also fly into Monterey Regional Airport, which is definitely closer than San Francisco. I stayed at the Embassy Suites in Monterey and it was a great location! There was an In-N-Out right next door and it was in close proximity to food and stores.
If you’re interested in booking an engagement session, elopement, or wedding in Big Sur, I would love to chat with you! I will happily travel there any day of any week!
