I'm a wedding, elopement, and engagement photographer specializing in storytelling and true to life photography!
In my opinion wedding flowers are ESSENTIAL to a wedding day. Maybe that’s because I’m obsessed with flowers in general, but I firmly believe they bring things to life. Especially wedding day visions. Whether you’ve heard from married friends, your wedding planner, or from your florist; you’ve probably heard wedding flowers can be pretty costly. However, there’s ways to save money on wedding flowers when it comes to choosing them!
Finding ways to repurpose your wedding flowers throughout your day will help you save on floral costs. So, what does repurposing flowers mean exactly? You can find ways to use your wedding flowers in more than one way on your wedding day. Planning on having a grounded arch for your ceremony? Use those arrangements around your sweetheart table during the reception! You can also use your bridesmaid’s bouquets as centerpieces on tables during the reception!
Here are some other ways to repurpose flowers on your wedding day…
I love bud vases! They’re simple and sweet, and look good no matter the season or color. Bud vases and candles are a great way to decorate reception tables! They’re gorgeous, and it’s a great way to save instead of option for large centerpieces. Check out this wedding gallery to see how they decorated with bud vases, it was absolutely gorgeous!
These bud vases from Amazon are so pretty and I’ve used them many times and always get compliments on them! Another option for finding bud vases is thrifting them. I have always had great luck finding vases at Goodwill.
There are some flowers that simply just cost more than others. Also talk to your florist about flowers that are grown locally and are in season. They’re the experts and will help you make informed decisions!
Choosing a standard rose instead of spray rose (the smaller ones) are actually less costly. Larger stems (such as dahlias, daisies, carnations, etc.) that make a statement are a good way of saving some money, as well as adding greenery for filler.
You might here that faux flowers are cheaper, this isn’t always the case! And in my opinion they just don’t photograph the same as real flowers do. Keep this in mind when you’re planning for wedding flowers!
There are some absolutely incredible florists out there! I have had the opportunity to capture the creations of many florists, and I’m always blown away by what they put together. Listed below are two of my favorite florists, one San Diego based, and the other here in the Phoenix area! If you’re looking for a florist within these two areas, I highly suggest reaching out to them to see if they’re available for your wedding day!
Mai Floral Design – Leah is incredible. I don’t know how else to describe her. She’s one of the most thoughtful people I have met and her personality is gold. She’s an expert when it comes to nailing a vision and listens to what you want and then surpasses any expectation or dream you could have for your flowers! All brides who ask me if I know any florists in San Diego she’s my go-to girl and I can’t recommend her enough. Below are pictured a few of the projects we have worked on together!
Lux Wedding Florists – I had the opportunity to capture the creations of this wedding vendor and their creations were gorgeous and so timeless! I highly recommend reaching out to them. I follow their Instagram account and every time they post something new I’m blown away!
