As a wedding photographer I am so excited for all the 2024 wedding trends! Twenty-twenty three was a big year for weddings and we saw so many amazing trends in the wedding industry. Some of those trends are here to stay, but I think we’ll be seeing a lot of new (and repeated history) trends! Here are some of my favorite trends I can’t wait to photograph.
2024 Wedding Trends That Are Here to Stay
In 2023 we have seen some amazing trends that are definitely going to stick around for awhile. Some of these trends include intimate gatherings, outdoor wedding celebrations and backyard weddings, sustainability, champagne towers, etc.
Intimate Weddings
Intimate weddings really took off after covid, but in 2023 it became more and more apparent that couples wanted a more intimate setting for their big day. I love this “trend”, and honestly I think it will stick around for a long time coming in the world of weddings. Intimate weddings are usually classified by having between 20-50 guests in attendance.
Backyard Weddings and Outdoor Receptions
Backyard weddings were a big trend in 2023 and I don’t think it will be slowing down anytime soon! Whether it’s your backyard, your parents, a friends, or an Airbnb (that you have approval from), backyards can be the perfect setting for intimate weddings! Outdoor weddings receptions became increasingly popular as well, and I loved it!
Sustainable Decor
Sustainability became something that was a priority among couples this past year. Whether that was borrowing decor from friends, thrifting for vases, using locally grown flowers, or renting your furniture from a rental company! Another resource is Facebook market place for finding decor. A lot of brides resell their decor after their wedding, I see this all the time on bridal Facebook groups.
Champagne Towers
Oh yes, the good ole’ champagne tower! I’m obsessed with this trend, but who isn’t?! This is going to stick around for sure, but I also think we’re going to see a fun play on this as well. I think more couples will have espresso martinis, mocktails, or margaritas, displayed in tower form for their guests to grab when entering the reception!
New 2024 Wedding Trends We’re Going To See
Now onto the new trends we’re going to start seeing a lot more of in 2024! You may have started seeing these things at the end of 2023, but you best believe they’re going to become more and more popular in ’24.
Checkered Dance Floors
This might be one of the trends I’m most excited for! It’s modern yet vintage and I can’t get enough of it. If you want to get your guests up and dancing all night, bring out the checkered dance floor! If your venue doesn’t have this option, see if it’s okay to bring in rentals from another company for your dance floor and lounge sets. The perfect pairing with a checkered dance floor is a couple velvet couches for guests to relax and mingle on.
Bright Florals and Decor
Last year white and pastels colors were very popular among 2023 couples. This next year, prepare to see a lot more color! Why not include bold colors and fun color palettes into your day?! I have a whole Pinterest board with just color palette ideas, check it out here for inspiration!
Vintage Cakes
I love cake, any cake is a good cake in my opinion. Vintage cakes have made their return recently, and in 2024 we’re going to see a lot more of these! Whether you incorporate a small cake just to cut as a couple, or you plan on having a tiered cake to serve to all of your guests, a vintage cake is always a good idea.
Extravagant Wedding Guest Seating Charts
If you’ve been on Pinterest, Instagram, or TikTok then you have most likely seen some pretty epic seating charts! I can’t wait for all the unique escort card displays we will be seeing in 2024. Check out this Pinterest board I put together with some epic seating chart ideas!
Candid Photography
This is one that speaks to me on another level! I love capturing those authentic moments, with lots of movement, the in between moments, the little details, etc. I’ve increasingly seen more couples want this style of photography more when talking during consultations and reading inquiries. It seems that many couples want all the authentic moments captured more than the posed photos, and this is something I am here for. Give me all the dancing, all the moments I catch you in an unprompted embrace, all your guests enjoying themselves! One way to ensure we get all these moments is by having a second photographer there to document those in between moments during getting ready, the ceremony, reactions during speeches, and all the dancing!

Casey and Jon came from Houston and while they were in town for the weekend they wanted to take their engagement photos, so we made it happen. I love that I’ve had so many couples reach out and say they’re coming from out of state and want to book a desert engagement session while they’re visiting Arizona. I think the desert is absolutely beautiful, and such a fun and unique place to take photos!
